Held System

From all branches of philosophy, ethics is the most practical. Values connect the abstractions of moral decisions and provides guidelines for overcoming difficult situations. Ethical Systems are worthless if they do not conform with reality and validated by the facts.

History has produced hundreds of different ethical teachings that work well in special cases, but failed disastrously in other contexts. Fortunately, we can see if the philosophies passed the tests of truthfulness and functionality without having to examine them one by one. For the purpose of analysis, ethical systems can be grouped into three main types: the partial, the logical and teleological.

[1] Heavy ethic consists of one or multiple orders that are not comprehensive enough to constitute a system of thoughts. Most of the ethical beliefs held by individuals may be classified as partially ethics.

Let me emphasize that moral principles be decided in this way is not necessarily false. Sometimes the perfect albeit incomplete policy requires that, by the second occasions, is utter nonsense put forward as ethical commandments.

As examples of two well-intentioned bids, take for example, "protect the planet" and "help others people. "Individuals who advocate such as ethics usually have good intentions, but their formulations are so fragmented that can be implemented consistently.

If you want to protect the planet, you first need to define "planet". Does it just rock or even animals and trees? If the concept includes animals, it should not include people too? If plants and microorganisms are both part of the planet, you should protect them from each other? Interesting questions, which partially ethics can not provide answers unassailable.

If your only ethical principle is to help other people, how will you decide which individuals to assist with priority? If person A will help person B, person B is needed to help the person A? What happens if B has a different opinion? Who will settle disputes on the meaning and scope of the word "Help"?

Partly ethics are unsatisfactory because they do not work in all situations. Principles mentioned above are correct if applied in a particular context, but can not be extended to a full-blown system of morality. Life is too complicated to navigate if you know only one thing. Mon require a thinking methodology, not just a list of unconnected precepts.

[2] Logical systems of ethics represents a major step in human thought. Their purpose is to create an ethic that answers all questions, a method that can be used on all the events without incurring contradictions. In the story, partly ethics often develop into logical moral system after it becomes clear that the man does not can make rational decisions on the basis of isolated precepts.

Unlike partial ethics, moral logic systems are consistent. Their principles and guidelines are related. Their conclusions measure of universality in space and duration in time. A well-rounded moral system to guide people in any situation that they can meet in their private or professional lives.

The "categorical imperative" is derived from the German philosopher Immanuel Kant (1724-1804) is the best known system of logic ethics. According to Kant, the true principles of morality must be universal, non-contradictory, and recognizable on the ground. Decisions and actions are considered virtuous if they can be elevated to the universal rules for all people.

"You shall not steal" and "not murder" are just two specific applications of the categorical imperative. Kantian ethics does not address only a few situations, but all options of human action. Logical ethical systems not only provide recommendations for isolated cases, but a complete thought methodology.

Nevertheless, these moral systems suffer from an inherent weakness. They are better than partially ethics because they are non-contradictory, but internal consistency does not guarantee benefits. Kantian morale is an intellectual movement alien to the richness of human experience, it's a cold machines that work without feeling, ambition, passion, or hesitation.

Categorical imperatives forbidding man to attack his neighbor, but they will not tell him what he needs to do to be happy. Logical systems of ethics dealing with the psychological aspects of human action only to a limited extent. Kantian morality will not give you guidelines for how to define personal goals, allocate resources, and deal effectively with adversity.

[3] teleological systems of ethics are the best that philosophy has produced. On the one hand, they go beyond the isolated bids partly moral, on the other hand, aims to give a comprehensive and consistent methodology, just as logical ethics. The teleological systems render moral alive by connecting it to a parent objectives, namely happiness.

The word "teleological" is derived from the Greek word "telos" meaning purpose or goal. Sophisticated systems of ethics are beyond "do not steal" and "not murder." They show the human condition as a complex combination of factors that must be judged according to general assets and prioritized according to individual goals.

A teleological ethic based on reason provides a framework of thought that encompasses all human decisions and actions. This system of ethical goal not only to keep you out of trouble, but also to help you get the best out of your life. The list of teleological virtues include not only honesty and fairness, but also independence, ambition and perseverance.

If you want to make optimal choices, you should adopt a teleological system of ethics based on reason. Other approaches to morality is feasible in certain conditions, but fail to pass the tests of universality, duration, consistency, and comprehensiveness.
